When repairing the boiler may make sense

A repair can be the right choice when the boiler is otherwise reliable, the fault is isolated and replacement parts remain readily available. A single breakdown does not automatically mean the appliance has reached the end of its useful life.

APS considers the fault, general condition, service history and likely future reliability before recommending work. If a safe, economical repair is the better option, we will explain it clearly.

When replacement becomes worth considering

Frequent breakdowns, increasingly expensive repairs, unreliable heating or hot water and obsolete parts can make continued repairs poor value. Age is relevant, but it should be considered alongside condition and performance rather than used as the only deciding factor.

A replacement can also be sensible when the existing boiler no longer suits the property, particularly after an extension, changes to hot water demand or wider heating-system alterations.

Compare the whole cost, not one repair

The useful comparison is not simply one repair bill against the price of a new boiler. Consider recent repair spending, expected future faults, available warranty cover and whether the current system delivers the comfort and hot water the household needs.

Efficiency can contribute to the decision, but savings vary by property, controls and heating use. Replacement should not be justified by unrealistic energy-saving claims.

How APS helps you decide

An APS engineer can assess the boiler and the surrounding heating system before giving repair-versus-replacement advice. If replacement is appropriate, the home survey considers boiler type, output, controls, pipework and installation requirements before a clear quote is provided.
