How the Boiler Upgrade Scheme Helps

Up to £9,000 available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) for eligible air source heat pump installations — the amount depends on your existing heating system and scheme eligibility. BUS supports eligible low-carbon heating, while MCS requirements help protect the quality of the design and installation.

  • Up to £9,000 available for eligible air source heat pump installations
  • Up to £7,500 when replacing an eligible gas heating system with an air source heat pump
  • Up to £9,000 when replacing an eligible oil (or LPG) heating system with an air source heat pump on qualifying off-gas-grid properties (21 July 2026 – 31 March 2027)
  • The approved grant is applied directly against your eligible installation
  • APS checks technical suitability before recommending an application
  • The installer-led application is managed by our MCS-certified team

The BUS Grant Process

  1. Property survey

We assess heat loss, emitters, hot water demand, outdoor space and your existing heating system.

  2. Confirm Suitability & Eligibility

APS explains whether a heat pump suits your home and whether the proposed installation meets current BUS rules.

  3. Receive a Quote

Your proposal sets out the system specification, installation work and applicable grant contribution.

  4. APS Applies to Ofgem

We submit the installer-led voucher application; Ofgem contacts you to confirm consent.

  5. MCS Installation

Our team installs, commissions and documents the system to MCS and manufacturer standards.

  6. Grant Redeemed

APS redeems the approved voucher, which is applied to the eligible installation.

What APS Handles

  • Property & Heat-Loss Survey

A technical assessment confirms whether an air source heat pump can perform effectively.

  • Current Scheme Check

We check the proposed installation against current Ofgem grant values and eligibility rules.

  • MCS System Design

The heat pump, cylinder, controls and emitters are designed as one efficient system.

  • Voucher Application

APS submits and manages the installer-led BUS application where eligible.

  • Installation & Commissioning

Qualified engineers complete the work, testing and customer handover.

  • Certification & Aftercare

MCS documentation, warranty registration, servicing and repair support are available from APS.

MCS support for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is installer-led — you cannot usually apply on your own. APS MCS engineers assess whether your Berkshire home qualifies, including many oil or LPG off-gas properties, then handle the Ofgem voucher, design and commissioning if a heat pump is the right fit.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) Grant in Berkshire — FAQs

Can APS apply for the BUS grant for me?

Yes. BUS is installer-led. If your property and proposed system qualify, APS submits and manages the application as your MCS-certified installer.

How much BUS grant could I receive?

Up to £9,000 is available for eligible air source heat pump installations — the amount depends on your existing heating system and scheme eligibility. Up to £7,500 is available when replacing an eligible gas heating system with an air source heat pump. Up to £9,000 is available when replacing an eligible oil (or LPG) heating system with an air source heat pump on qualifying off-gas-grid properties (from 21 July 2026 until 31 March 2027).

Do I receive the grant money directly?

No. The approved grant is applied by the installer to the eligible installation.

Potentially. Eligible off-gas-grid properties replacing oil or LPG heating may receive enhanced BUS support under current scheme rules. APS checks both grant eligibility and whether a correctly designed heat pump will suit the property.
