When to call immediately
Burst pipes, major leaks, no heating in winter, sewage backups and suspected gas leaks require urgent attention. APS provides 24/7 emergency plumbing and heating cover from our Thatcham base.
For gas emergencies, open windows, do not use electrical switches and call the national gas emergency line on 0800 111 999 before contacting us for heating repairs once the supply is safe.
Steps to limit damage
Turn off the water at the internal stopcock if safe to do so — usually under the kitchen sink or where the mains enters the property. Move furniture and valuables away from water.
Switch off electrics in affected areas if water is near sockets or appliances. Place buckets under active leaks and photograph damage for insurance if appropriate.
Common Berkshire emergency scenarios
Frozen and burst pipes affect lofts, garages and outside taps across Berkshire winters. Blocked drains causing internal flooding, failed immersion heaters and boiler breakdowns during cold snaps are equally urgent.
APS engineers are familiar with local property types — from Newbury town centre flats to rural oil-heated cottages near Lambourn and Hungerford.
What to expect when you call APS
When you call 01635 269888 you speak to our local team — not a national call centre. We confirm engineer availability for your postcode and dispatch a qualified engineer from west Berkshire.
Our goal is make-safe first, then permanent repair. We carry common parts on the van and provide clear documentation for insurance claims where needed.
